Bee Happy Homes – Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman

Moving Again?!!!

Oh my lands!  We must be crazy.

In our eight years of marriage, Jeff and I have moved eleven times — so far.  And after buying our first home in October, we are seriously considering moving this summer.

We are kind of being forced into it, but we can see how it will end up better for our family in the long run.  We moved where we are now in order to be closer to my Dad who is 76.  We had on our hearts to honour my father, which means to value him as important.  Making a trip every summer from Florida to Texas was just not feasible for us.  And for him to never see our children did not seem honouring to me.  So we made the move and bought a house in the small town where I grew up.  But Jeff works 30 miles away, and we go to church about 45 miles away, with our lifehouse (church fellowship group) even further.  With the rising cost of gas, we spend over $500 a month on gas.  This includes my weekly trips to the doctor 30 miles away, which in all excludes trips to church activities, other than Sunday morning.  So, not only are we WAY out of any kind of budget, we are also unable to be involved in our church.  Going deeper into debt and further from the church are not options we are willing to live with.

We tried churches in our small town, but found them religious and clannish.  We want and need to be in a church that is alive with the gospel of Jesus Christ and growing, etc.  Also, Jeff is a teacher, and in eight years of teaching, he is in the best school district that he’s worked in so far.  I know the school district in our home town and know that Jeff would not thrive in it.  So changing churches or changing jobs is not really an option.

We love the house we are in now.  It is large, with a nice back yard.  We really love everything about it.  But it is just a house.  We are not willing to hold onto any house, and be out of the will of God.  And with rising costs in food and other factors, we will be downsizing as well as getting closer to Jeff’s work and church.  And living 30 miles away, we will still be able to see my father as much as we do now.  We are committed to that.

Now it is just a matter of praying and waiting and letting the Lord lead us on.   Overall, we are excited about the move, seeing how our lives will become more manageable, as well as in moving closer toward the will of God for our family.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;  and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another;  and all the more, as you see the day drawing near.                                              Hebrews 10:23-25

Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you.                  Exodus 20:12

Now the LORD said to Abram, Go forth from your country, and from your relatives and from your father’s house, to the land which I will show you;  and I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great;  and so you shall be a blessing;                            Genesis 12:1-2
