Proverbs 31:4 No Winers
Proverbs 31:4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, or for rulers to desire strong drink.
Ecclesiastes 10:17 Blessed are you, O land, whose king is of nobility and whose princes eat at the appropriate time — for strength, and not for drunkenness.
Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is intoxicated (lit. errs) by it is not wise.
Hosea 4:11 Harlotry, wine, and new wine take away the understanding (lit. heart).
The Bible not only makes it clear to stay away from drunkenness, but it says to not even desire strong drink. Drunkenness is a heart problem. God wants our worship, our attention, our love. He wants us to open our hearts to Him, so that He can love and heal us. He does not want to see us drown along with our sorrows.
Warning her sons against the dangers of alcohol is second only to warning them of the dangers of sexual immorality. This subject is of high priority. Alcohol abuse ruins lives, It ruins families. It must be avoided.
This mom reminds her son repeatedly of the great responsibility he will bear as an adult. How he lives his life will affect many other people. As Christian moms, we want to raise our sons to be faithful servants of the Lord, thus being world changers. To follow Jesus is no less. We want their lives to produce a harvest of righteousness, not a harvest of scandal and pain. We must do all we can to sow seeds of righteousness into their lives.
Substance abuse of any kind is dangerous. Let us not neglect to teach this to our sons and our daughters.
